WordPress.Org is paid while the other can be used for free (to be honest blogger is far better than the free WordPress, unless you moved to paid then it will be a tie). On this topic I will be discussing about the paid. Before we get started, you should know that I have used both platforms, which means I know what am saying. So lets begin.

Quick checkup, On WordPress You do not need to worry yourself doing things from scratch, all you need to do is know what you want and get the plugin that will automatically do the exact thing for you. But On Blogger, it is "a man for himself", you will have to do all things yourself. This doesn't mean WordPress is better. Let's dive into the deal below.

Pricing

WordPress

Its not free, you pay for it. After paying you have all access to your blog, no restrictions, just blog, edit and have fun. In one word you have the full right to it.

Blogger

Its totally free, all you have to do is have a gmail. Once you have a gmail you are as good as go. But custom domains are paid.

Ownership

Wordpress

On WordPress self hosted sites, you have the full right to customize your blog as you want.

Blogger

On blogger you have a divided right while google has the remaining, just be careful of what you publish on the blog and follow the blogger terms and conditions or else your blog is gone and chances of getting the blog back is very slim or impossible. You might not be even to use the domain name on other blogspot site.

Appearance (Themes / Template)

Wordpress

WordPress offer more template than blogspot does, let's just say its unlimited for WordPress. Users have the previledge of using any kind of template he/she wants.

Blogger

Blogspot offers minimal templates, though there are places you can get templates you need, but still wordpress has these. Due to the way WordPress templates looks and what they offer, some blogspot users will prefer to move over to WordPress, this make developers creating a similar template to WordPress to satisfy their needs.

Media

WordPress

WordPress allow you to upload any type of files on your website, be it Video (Mp4) Audio (Mp3) and many more, but watch out for the Bandwidth and Disk space. (Did you say you will get unlimited? What if others can't afford that).

Blogger

If you are using blogspot by now you should know that blogger only offer image upload. To upload a video you will have to use YouTube. Create a YouTube channel and start uploading or use Google Drive.

Permalinks

Wordpress

wordpress allows you to structure how you want your URL to be or look like, example is (domain.com/?p=123, domain.com/2020/01/post-title.html, domain.com/post-title.html, domain.com/post-title, domain.com/category/post-title/ and more like that. Wordpress have all ways in which you can use URL as an advantage for your seo.

Here are common settings offered on WordPress

And you can even structure it based on your preference.

Blogger

On blogger there is no way in which you can structure you link, you only stick to default slug (e.g yourdomain.com/2020/01/post-title.html).

Plugins

WordPress

On WordPress you do not need to worry yourself doing things from scratch on WordPress, because you are not alone developers have developed plugins to help you. all you need to do is know what you wanted and go get the plugin that will automatically do things for you. (Let say you structure a url but you later wish to change it, not to worry Yoast Seo plugins and other redirection plugins are there to help you.) The Plugin force are with you.

Blogger

On blogger, you are kind of alone. No seo plugins, nothing. you will have to do all things yourself. Even redirecting url gives you headache. (Let assumed, you you changed a lot of URLs in you website or you wish to redirect multiple urls. You will have to set the redirections one by one which will take so much time, depending on the amount of urls you want to redirect, it may take you days.)

Seo

WordPress

Talking about search engine optimization, WordPress is automatically ready to set things for you. Further more there are seo plugins on WordPress that are search engine ready, they are all already set tags that you do not need to disturb your self adding things, with just one click you can set WordPress seo. With Yoast Premium plugin you can do better.

Blogger

On Blogspot If you can work hard enough, you can also get there. But you will have to take enough time editing your template and adding the meta tags and other tags yourself.

Preference (Verdict)

I can't choose for you, but i will advice you to use blogger if you are just getting started, blogging for fun or using it as a side blog (Note: Bloggers also make money with Blogspot).

WordPress would be advised if you creating a business blog or Store, you should use it if you are blogging for profit or as a professional (Though using blogspot doesn't make you unprofessional but due to its limits, you are advised to use WordPress).
